‌Fanhe Greenhouse Unveils Desert-Agriculture Breakthrough in Saudi Arabia

16-05-2025

Fanhe Greenhouse Technology Co., Ltd. has successfully delivered a revolutionary $68 million smart greenhouse project in Saudi Arabia's Al-Kharj region, developed in partnership with NEOM AgriFood.

The 50-hectare facility features:

  • 32 sandstorm-proof glass greenhouses with patented heat-reflective coatings (maintaining 22°C in 50°C external temperatures)

  • Integrated seawater desalination irrigation achieving 90% water efficiency

  • AI systems optimizing growth cycles for cherry tomatoes and bell peppers

Saudi Minister of Environment Abdulrahman Al-Fadli praised the project during its May 13 inauguration as "a cornerstone for Vision 2030's food security goals." The complex will supply 15% of Riyadh's annual premium vegetable demand while reducing import dependency.

"This project proves Chinese agricultural technology can thrive in extreme arid conditions," said Fanhe CEO Zhang Weimin. Custom solutions included robotic pollinators adapted for enclosed desert environments and UV-stabilized polycarbonate panels.

The project has created 1,100 local jobs and trained 400 Saudi technicians in smart farming operations. Both parties announced plans to expand cooperation to Tabuk Province in 2026.
