Fanhe Greenhouse Completes Landmark Sri Lanka Project, Boosting Tropical Smart Farming
Fanhe Greenhouse Technology Co., Ltd. has successfully commissioned its largest overseas project to date: a $42 million smart greenhouse complex in Sri Lanka's Ampara District, developed with Sri Lanka Agricultural Technology Institute (SLATI).
Spanning 62 hectares, the project features 84 typhoon-resistant greenhouses equipped with:
Hybrid solar-diesel cooling systems adapted for tropical climates (maintaining 26°C at 85% humidity)
AI-assisted disease for local chili and vanilla crops
Water recycling technology cutting usage by 55% compared to traditional farming
Sri Lankan Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera hailed it as "a transformative model for South Asia's climate-vulnerable regions" during the May 14 inauguration attended by 200 officials and farmers. The project has trained 340 local technicians in smart farming operations.
"By customizing our Chinese solutions for Sri Lanka's monsoon conditions, we've achieved 97% crop survival rates," stated Fanhe's International Director Liu Yang. The facility will supply 12,000 tons/year of export-grade produce to EU and Middle Eastern markets while creating 800 direct jobs.
Both parties signed an MOU to replicate this model in Jaffna by late 2026.
